The 2023 season is already well underway for Bogdan and David Cosma-Cristofor, the two young Romanian hopefuls who have shone in karting for several seasons at international level. Emerging in their home country with numerous successes to their credit, they have not hesitated to cross the borders to compete against the best drivers in the world, while continuing to collect trophies. After promising collective tests and first top 10 results at the Winter Cup on 22nd January, the WSK Champions Cup organised a week later in Lonato, Italy, allowed Bogdan Cosma-Cristofor to climb on the third step of the podium in the 60 Mini International class. David continued to progress in the difficult OK-Junior category. The South Garda Karting circuit of Lonato, located in the north of Italy between Brescia and Verona, benefited from pleasant weather for this latest edition of the WSK Champions Cup. In Mini 60, a category with 72 registered drivers, the meeting started perfectly for Bogdan Cosma-Cristofor, who won his first race after an 11-place climb! “I knew that my 27th time in Timed Practice did not reflect my true level of performance and I wanted to show straight away that I could be counted on for the best places during the event,” Bogdan stressed. The young Romanian continued to improve in the following heats, winning once again, before confirming his competitiveness in his Prefinal at the wheel of his KR-IAME kart. Determination pays off“It’s never easy to start from the outside of the grid and I experienced that when I lost several places in the first few laps. But I never gave up and I managed to stay in the leading group until the end, gaining places as the laps went by. I was fast, as my best race time proves. On the last lap I took the opportunity to move up to 3rd place and my overtaking manoeuvre was perfectly successful. It’s great for my confidence to be on the podium at the beginning of the season and to make the Romanian flag shine. I would like to thank my new team, the Driver Racing Kart Team, my coach Dragos Gulie and the International School of Bucharest which enables me to continue my education in good conditions while racing at a high level.” For his part, David Cosma-Cristofor has again shown great promise in OK-Junior within the official KR Motorsport team that he has recently joined. The Romanian driver finished a brilliant 3rd in the Rok Cup Superfinal at the end of last season and finished his first 2023 event in the top five in the Winter Cup. He performed really well in the heats in this WSK Champions Cup, but also had to register a retirement, which dropped him to 19th on the grid in the Final. He came back to the fight in a field in full battle for the final podium and was driving at a very high pace, before a contact with another driver forced him to settle for 14th place. |
